In thinking about the upcoming election, as a believer in Jesus Christ, there really is only one option.
If you base your vote on these two things alone, the choice is clear:
1. abortion
2. gay marriage
Abortion clearly violates God's law and His only creation made in His image....human life. In the VP debate last week, Paul Ryan clearly stated that he believes life begins at conception and I definitely agree. Even in the most horrific circumstances, God has a plan and all life is sacred. Does the 'choice' argument hold up when put in other life contexts? For example, let's consider speeding and drunk driving. What if I told the officer when he/she stops me for speeding that he should respect my 'choice'? He is going to laugh and hand me the ticket. Or perhaps drunk driving. What if I have too many drinks, get behind the wheel, and kill one of your family members and claim, it is my 'choice'? I hardly doubt the 'choice' argument in that instance, with regard to your family member's life, holds up in court. Why should 'choice' then hold up when it's mother vs. baby?
Gay marriage. Marriage is the first instituion created by God, before church and civil government. Marriage clearly is to be between a man and a woman. Anything else violates His laws. So, again, the choice when it comes to the candidates is clear.
Finally, examine each candidate's views when it comes to Israel. The current administration clearly does not value Israel's position as a long-standing U.S. ally. Why should this matter? It should matter tremendously, especially to believers. Not even considering our national security, which is extremely important to me now as a parent, but as a Christian, it matters even more. Israel is the land of God's chosen people. He will continue to protect it until the Lord returns. Are things going to get worse? Certainly. Read the books of Daniel and Revelation. But we should do all that we can to keep Israel an ally and help protect that nation from those near them that desire to annihilate them.
We can't continue to glibly quote, "God bless America" while we sit idly by. Make your vote count.
