The 7th and 8th days of Christmas

Dec. 31--the 7th day of Christmas...my true love gave to me, seven swans-a-swimming
(the seven gifts of the Spirit)

Jan. 1--the 8th day of Christmas...my true love gave to me, eight maids-a-milking
(Christ died for everyone, even the 'lowest' members of society...and in that day, the maids were looked at by others as low in status)
