On Tuesday we went back to the Villas home....this was our second time to visit these children. Being our second visit we knew what to expect this time so we were able to jump right into a game with the children once we arrived. After a time of playing we took the older kids into a room to read them the book we are using during our Bible story time. The first part of the book deals with Creation and all that God created. We shared with the children that God had created them and they are all special to Him and He loves them so much.
Our time moved us into the discussion as to what it takes to become a Christian. A few of the children shared that they were Christians and a couple of the girls had some really good questions that we were able to answer for them. We asked each child what they wanted to do when they grow up and they shared their dreams with us. We ended our discussion by telling them that if they believe in God and pray He will help them and that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to. We want these children to know no matter how things in their lives look right now...He has a plan for their lives.
The rest of the day us spent doing crafts and general play time with the children. Darla has been able to make a connection with a 15 year old girl that is having a very difficult time. Her dad is remarried and his wife doesn't want her and her mother has been married many times so she is at the home and is having some trust issues. Darla spent most of the afternoon talking with her and encouraging her....Darla was meant to come on this trip to minister to this young lady.
It was another good day but not our last with these kids. They will be coming to our hotel Thursday to spend the day at the beach and swimming....that's right I said at the beach.....it will be a tough day but someone has to do it. I will share in my next post about our day at the Cocos home...it was a difficult day for everyone because we had to say goodbye. It was also a tough day for me personally and you will have to check back to hear why.
Thanks for the prayers and keep them coming our way.
Matthew

ReplyDeleteI cracked up when you said the beach day is a tough day but someone has to do it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you asked them what they want to do when they grow up. Thank you for your leadership Matthew. I look forward to talking with you and Stephanie more at the leader training.
