After talking with a new friend on the phone today, I am so encouraged by what God is doing in N. Alabama for the fatherless. He continues to raise up families to love and care for foster children and orphans. At times I get so excited, I can hardly stand it!
However, I know that we as Christians could be doing soooo much more. It is my prayer that my heart would be broken for the things that break His heart...that my eyes would be open to the needs of those around me...that my ears would be open to hearing His voice...and that my mind would be willing to step out in faith, to be obedient to what He is calling me to do.
Over, and over in Scripture the fatherless, the poor, the broken are mentioned in such a tender way...as He pours out His love and protection on them. But, if we are to truly be the hands and feet of Jesus on this earth, we should be involved in helping them, however we can. It pains me so to hear people make excuses....God is a God of the possible...with man this is impossible, but with God, ALL things are possible!
It's time for more of our churches and their people in leadership positions to make a stand; to encourage people in their congregations to be bold in faith, to step out in obedience, to depend on Him for EVERYTHING, because He will provide. If we, as believers don't care for the fatherless and the widows, who will? We must 'speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves' and 'defend the fatherless'. We have no excuses.
I am really looking forward to the coming months and some great opportunities that the orphan care ministry at Parkview, Hearts of Compassion, has in front of us. I am most excited, though, about the chance we have to present an adoptive family with a grant/loan from our fund...who will the first family be? And my prayer is, that MANY, many more will follow!
If you are reading this and you, or someone you know has completed your home study for an adoption, domestic or international, you are eligible to apply for a grant/loan from our fund. Please email me sbass524@yahoo.com and I'll send you an application! May our hearts be tender and broken for the things that break His heart.
